Best outdoor activities in Dallas

Katy Trail

While still a work-in-progress, the Katy Trail is a 3.5 mile concrete walking and biking path. The Katy trail traces the old railroad tracks that once divided the downtown core of the city and runs from Victory Park all the way to Mockingbird station. Alongside the concrete is a nice rubber shoulder for runners–your knees will thank you!

White Rock Lake Trail

If you’re looking for a slightly more natural setting for your workout, check out the White Rock Lake Trail. It’s a 9.33 mile trail that traces the outline of White Rock Lake, with plenty of options for activities if hiking or biking isn’t your thing. White Rock Lake also has opportunities for kayaking, boating, and birdwatching. There’s also a dog park available if you have your pooch with you.

Arbor Hills

Arbor Hills is another great option to get outside the hustle and bustle of Dallas without really leaving. This 200-acre park has 6 miles of hiking trails (3 paved and 3 unpaved) as well as off-road biking trails. Tons of birds call Arbor Hills home, and it’s a great spot to peep at other American wildlife like deer, bobcats, coyotes and turtles. Reviews rave about the wildflowers and the serene view from the overlook.

Bachman Lake Trail

If you’re looking for a refreshing or recovery workout, Bachman Trail is your answer. It’s close to Dallas Love Field, so there’s the occasional plane flying overhead, but this 3.1 mile loop is still a calming spot to get your steps in. Come in the summer to see rowers in the lake. Dogs are welcome to use the trail and it’s stroller-friendly, too.

Trinity Skyline Trail

Starting at the Trinity Overlook and stretching for 4.6 miles along the river, this is definitely the most scenic option on the list. You’ll get a great workout with constant views of the Dallas Skyline as you trace the banks of the Trinity River. You can easily extend your walk or run as the trail feeds directly into Trammell Crow Park. From there on, choose your own adventure.
