Just south of the city, in the Coconut Grove neighborhood, is this sprawling, historic Gilded-age estate that’s a relic of Miami’s extravagant, whimsical past. Explore the mansions 32 decorated rooms and over 10 acres of beautiful gardens, mangrove swamps, and exotic pools. Previously known as Villa Vizcaya, the entire property is now owned by Miami-Dade County and is open to the public. One of the most unique things to do in Miami, John Pennekamp State Park is the nation’s first undersea state park encompassing over 70 nautical miles of living coralreef. Visitors can explore the park by snorkel (available for rent), SCUBA, kayak, or the popular glass bottom boat.
Everglades National Park is located due west of Miami and preserves over 20% of Florida’s trademark swampland. Explore this vast wetland and see massive flocks of colorful birds, countless alligators, rare manatees, and gorgeous mangrove forests. Much of the Everglades is only accessible via boat, but visitors can also take a 2-hour tram tour or explore small sections of the park via boardwalk trails.
Why go all the way to Cuba when you have a little Havana right here? Visiting this cultural hotspot is a must for any foodie or cultural connoisseur. Little Havana is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon shopping or grabbing small bites at one of the many authentic Cuban restaurants, shops, or street stands along Calle Ocho.
