Road Trips from Houston

Houston is most famous as the birthplace of two American institutions: NASA & Beyonce’. But outside of the city limits lies a wealth of charming towns, refreshing rivers, and amazing americana to satisfy your sense of adventure.

Brenham

1 hour, 15 minute drive from Houston

Do you consider yourself Blue Bell ice cream’s biggest fan? Impossible, it’s us, but you can take the title for number two. Brenham is the birthplace of this iconic dairy-filled dessert. It’s also the place to go if you feel like running through a field in slow motion throughout a sea of bluebonnets.

San Marcos

2 hour, 45 minute drive from Houston

A charming, small, central Texas town with nature, watering holes, casual dining joints, and character. Cool off in the San Marcos River or check out some its fascinating caves.

Garner State Park

5 hour drive from Houston

Float the cool, clear waters of the Frio River (Spanish for ‘cold’) at Garner State Park. Smooth, sloping rock hills provide a stunning backdrop to this refreshing summer & fall hotspot. Texans love this park so much, it’s actually the most popular state park for overnight camping, so plan ahead. Garner has something for everyone, but the must-do is a relaxing, but fun float down the river. Make sure to bring your innertube and prepare for the occasional bumpy (but family-friendly) rapid.
