Road Trips from Austin

Austin might be America’s favorite city. Though most visitors never want to leave, Austinites understandably love to escape downtown for the network of rivers, parks, and central Texas swimming holes that lie outside of Austin city limits.

Jacob’s Well

1 hour drive from Austin

If you’re looking for a swimming hole alternative to Barton Springs or the usual local spots, Jacob’s Well could be your fix. This playful spot is popular for its cool turquoise waters and great jumping rocks. Just 30 feet below the surface hides a deadly network of underwater caves popular with thrill-seeking SCUBA divers. Don't let that turn you away though. Unless you’re trying to make it dangerous, Jacob’s Well is safe, fun spot to take a refreshing dip.

San Antonio

1 hour, 15 minute drive from Austin

Very American, very Texas. San Antonio has no shortage of things to see and do including the Japanese Tea Garden, the iconic Riverwalk, and of course The Alamo. If you thought Austin had a lot of bats, be sure to visit Bracken Cave. This ancient sinkhole actually houses the largest summer colony of bats in the world, with an estimated 20 million bats calling it their vacation home.
