Fall Favorites with Avail

There are plenty of reasons to love fall: incredible colors, warm & cozy cider, pumpkin carving, smoky, spicy smells, and the thrill of being spooked around a crackling campfire. It’s a bit of a bummer that this enchanting time of year often feels like the shortest season. That’s why when people fall, they fall hard. Here are our favorite autumn activities to make the most of the fleeting harvest season.

Get Picky at the Pumpkin Patch

Some call it basic, but we don’t judge. Find the perfect gourd for your jack-o-lantern and get plenty of squash pics for “the ‘gram”. You’re never too old for a pumpkin patch and each one has plenty of fall food, beverages, and fun to put anyone in the spirit.

Take a Bite at the Nearest Apple Orchard

By October, apples have spent months growing big, crisp and juicy just for you to enjoy. Nothing beats strolling through apple trees in a sweater, grabbing a basketful of fresh apples to take home. Bake ‘em in a pie, turn ‘em into cider, or eat ‘em as is.

Go Leaf Peeping

It’s not as creepy as it sounds. “Leaf peeping” refers to the activity of traveling to see the colorful changing leaves. It’s like the Fourth of July, but nature provides the fireworks (and it lasts all month long).

Have a Fright Night with a Drive-In Horror Movie

Pack up the popcorn and blankets, then head to the nearest drive-in theater. The cool fall air and outdoor setting provide a perfect backdrop for scary movies. Plus, you can scream as much as you want without ruining anyone else’s experience.

Get Spooked at a Haunted Hayride

If live theater is more your thing, take a haunted hayride and experience your scares up close. There’s nothing like an in-person, visceral fright for autumn adrenaline junkies and thrill-seekers. Plus, every hayride has its own storyline and unique style.

Hike through the Fall Forest

Hiking is the best way to experience autumn firsthand. A brisk walk in the woods does wonders for your mind, body, and spirit. It’s also a wonderful way to reflect with loved ones or get some solitude.

Get Lost in a Corn Maze

Corn mazes are definitely the most cerebral fall activity on the list. It’s fun for the whole family, plus a great chance to show off your fall outfits. You’ll get plenty of great photo ops among the towering stalks and discarded ears of corn.

Kick Back Around a Bonfire

Forgetting the s’mores would be a crime. Cozy up around the fire and exchange ghost stories, drink warm cider, and again, don’t forget the s’mores.

Bundle Up on the Patio

Support your favorite local spots by visiting their patios to enjoy food and drinks around a heater or fire pit. Bring a blanket if you tend to get chilly. Or, turn your own place into a café by firing up a pot of cider or trying your hand at crispy apple-cinnamon donuts.

Create a Spread & Picnic in the Park

If it’s not too chilly yet, pack up a basket with apples, pie, charcuterie, or whatever your preferred snack. Then, find a woodsy spot and have one last feast before the air gets frigid.
