Visitors to Austin love hanging out in Texas’s most unique city: Warm weather and plenty of public art inspired exploration. Austin’s neighborhoods can vary in walkability, which is why travelers do well to research their options for getting around before visiting. 

Austin Airport Transportation Options

If you are flying into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) there are several options for getting into the city or wherever you are staying in the area. The airport has a Ground Transportation Center that is located in the airport’s rental car facility. Pickups for ride shares, taxis, and shuttle services take place in this area.

Public transportation: The Capital Metro bus service serves the airport via its #20 Manor Road/Riverside bus. Bus service runs every day of the week, with different hours for weekdays and weekends, so make sure to plan accordingly. 

Shuttles and private cars: Off-site parking lots, rental car companies, and many hotels operate free shuttles to and from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. In addition, there are several ground transportation companies that provide limousine and shared van services.

Taxis and ride share services: Taxi service is always available, and you can arrange for a ride share pickup from Uber, Lyft, or Wingz.

Austin Public Transportation

Capital Metro is Austin’s public transportation authority. Buses are available for getting around town, as is MetroRail, a commuter train service that can get you into outlying areas. Fares depend on the type of transportation chosen, though affordable day and weekly passes are available. Day passes start at $2.50 per person/per day and go up to $7 per person/per day if you plan to use the rail or express bus service. 

Bike Share in Austin 

MetroBike is Austin’s bike share service. You can rent and return bicycles from stations around Austin for reasonable hourly fees. Day, weekend, and weekly passes are also available. If you plan to combine bike share with the use of the public transportation system, you may want to download the CapMetro app, which allows you to reserve and pay for MetroBike passes.
